Class field trip to the Parliament (government)

We visited the Norwegian Parliament building in Oslo. The King of Norway can attend one Parliament session each year, and he has a special chair reserved for him. We all had a chance to sit in it.

The Parliament is called the "Stortinget" which translates as "The Big Thing!"

Pompeii, Italy

POMPEII AND MOUNT VESUVIUS

Did anybody go to the Pompeii exhibit at the Museum of the Rockies last summer? If so, you might know about Pompeii!

Pompeii is a famous city. The volcano Mount Vesuvius erupted about 2,000 years ago and covered Pompeii in volcanic ash. Many people died but many people escaped.

We visited the Pompeii ruins. It's one of the most visited tourist sites.
At Pompeii. Mount Vesuvius is behind us.
(Ignore the date on the photo; camera wasn't set up)

The tour guide was telling us that the street (where she is standing) was the sewer, and the stone we were standing on was used for crossing the sewer/street!

Daniel is walking  down the sewer!! This would have
been the sewer 2,000 years ago.

Inside the glass room are the preserved bodies of ancient Pompeiians who
died when Vesuvius erupted almost 2,000 years ago

That is Mount Vesuvius in the background.

Do you see the lizard?

We stuck our feet in the Mediterranean Sea! It wasn't too cold.

Vatican City

Vatican City

Do you know who Pope Francis is? He's the most important Catholic leader in the world. We didn't see him, but we saw Vatican City where he lives and works. Vatican City is actually its own little country! It's next to Rome, Italy.
